Sedley Proctor and Tony Henderson started a creative writing partnership six years ago. After writing and publishing 15 books on all sorts of topics, we are finally fulfilling a dream to get all our stories into one place. A really good digital site has been the goal ever since we started, it is only with the genius, wisdom and persistence of our webmaster aka “The Badger” that this has been finally been possible at magickgate.com.
Inspiration
Tony was fortunate to attend the wonderful Word Theatre writing retreat in Edale in 2019. Over dinner, successful author and our fearless leader Professor Peter Orner made a remark that resonated: “Unlike many writers, Tony you have a commercial brain, please don’t waste it!”
Goal
Our goal is to build a new way of publishing stories digitally and enabling writers to *actually* make something from digital without having to write and publish an entire book. We have built out magickgate.com for our stories first in order to test the model.
Business Model
A work in progress! We tested a chargeable model and payment solution in 2021, and decided to move away from it for the moment as the technology was still too much of a barrier to having folks enjoy our stories.
Challenge
Although we have put many *midnight* hours into it, we know it can always be better and that it will need refinement before we can bring in other authors. We launched the site in beta from Christmas 2020 – and hope that you enjoy it, and that it provides some much needed relief from the challenges of this year.
