“When I gain a pound, it’s in the headlines.”
Kim Kardashian
Giorgio shrugs. I don’t understand all the fuss about the Kardashians, he says. Weight gain is like corporate reality. It’s an Anglo- Saxon construct. But I beg to differ. Actually, I think you’ll find, old chap, it goes back to Ancient Rome. I have a friend, Markie Hughes who is in the thick of it and between, you, me and the cats’ mother etc., it’s not as bad as you think it is. I strongly disagree. Corporate reality is the ridiculous bollocks we have to conform to in order to please the whims of our unelected and overpaid masters. How they got there nobody knows but they are they and they ask no demand that you pander to their whims, their insincerity and platitudes. I wonder what they do at home. I wonder, indeed, who they live with and whether the platitudes make it out of their flashy four-wheel drives and through the front door. Do their children sigh when their backs are turned? Do their wives and boyfriends simper sympathetically ‘nice job’ as they reach orgasm? Do they believe that they are the answer to everything? Or do they wonder, just for one fleeting second when they four-putt at the eighteenth that the rest of us is laughing as hard at them as the clubhouse? – Reading this over my shoulder, Giorgio says he quite likes four-wheel drives. However, he’s always wanted a Maserati, or an Alfa Spider. To which I wholeheartedly concur.
