For cricket fans how sad the news
The felling of poor Phillip Hughes
Full blooded swipe at short pitched ball
Endless courage says it all.
Neither bowler nor headgear’s fault
But ill luck’s strike like lightning bolt
If only you’d the chance once more?
Another heave! The crowd would roar!
Talent you had for sure in spades,
With dext’rous hands and flashing blade,
As you reflect from heaven above
You left whilst doing what you love.
Life is short and from all we’ve seen,
If you’d stayed, what might have been?
On sporting stage there’s no encore
Better leave them wanting more!
Cricket is the sadder without the fearless Aussie left-hand batter, Phillip Joel Hughes (1988 – 2014). RIP also Colin Bateman: bowler, batter, carpenter and dog owner. Go well on the cloudy Oval, mate. – Lance and Beef.
